Admission is free, samples are $1 each.

On Wednesday March 16, 2005 we presented seven fine Irish Whikeys for consideration. These were not all of the traditional character, most were single malts with prices to match. Flavour profiles varied from bourbon like to scotch similar.

In the end our advice is not to purchase on company name alone. Bushmills Malt 16 yr. ($70) ranked the highest with a median score of 22 (of 30) but the Bushmills 10 yr. and Bushmills Single Cask only managed to garner 18.5 and 16.5 points respectively. While this is not so bad for the $36 ten year old, it is a very disappointing result for the $86 single cask.

The table of scores is available here.

Our 16th Festival Of Small Breweries on Friday October 1, 2004. There were thirty-five craft brews from which to choose. As usual, there was a full-house in attendance. The bustling crowd seemed more intent on sampling than in filling out their tasting forms but seemed to be enjoying themselves in that "kid in a candy store" manner.

Because we have already given McAuslan a lifetime achievement award, we are ignoring the record score of 44.5 for their Oatmeal Stout and awarding Best Of The Festival to Denison's Weissbier which finished with a rating of 42. Runners-up were the Unibroue Ephemere Apple at 41 points, and the Black Oak Nut Brown at 40.5

dave celiaDave Celia

He has been described as "Roots-Rock with hints of Folk wrapped in a Pop Package..."

Flawless three and four part harmonies are usually the first thing audiences are drawn to but ultimately it's the songwriting that gives the music such a timeless feel.

Dave Celia is a shining local light receiving high accolades from both industry and audience. Check it out.

Dave Celia plays the club on Thursday April 7 with Rob Szabo. Show time 9:30, Admission $6.

amy campbellAmy Campbell

Defiant and vulnerable, Amy Campbell brings together classical training and folk sensibilities to create music that reaches into human experience and comes back with stories written from the soul.

After years with a band, she has released her debut solo album Architecture: Live At The Opera House through her own label. Compelling and raw live performances, her songs are 95% guaranteed to break your heart.

With a strong following that voted her best local female solo artist in Halifax's Reverb Magazine, Campbell has been playing regularly across Nova Scotia for several years and has just finished a Maritime tour with fellow songwriter Emm Gryner and a month-long tour of Ontario, Quebec, and the eastern United States, including Ladyfest East in New York; and an appearance as the special guest to The Scrappy Bitch Tour at the Halifax Pop Explosion.

Amy Campbell plays C'est What's Next on Tuesday April 19 with Brooke Miller. Show time 9:30, Admission $5.
