Yeah, yeah, we know, we know. You're probably sick of hearing and reading about when our wonderful new room will open. Not to fear, it already is open. We received permission to serve you from our new digs on November 13, 2003 fifteen years and nine months (to the day) from when we first opened our doors.

While there are still a few details to work out in the new space, we can tell you that the finishing touches that our old friend (and ex-server) Paul Markovich made to the room are as breathtaking as the sixteen new draught taps (perhaps more so if you prefer wine or whisky). Supporting the draught taps are the slick new washrooms. The pool tables and fireplace cozy are beautiful and the TVs are top notch. Rounding out the diversions available are a roomy, dedicated dart lane and a "Golden T" game.

Our new kitchen has been cranking out the "ethno-cletic" comfort food for six weeks now and we should be serving lunch in the new area in the next or so.

Expansion FAQs

1. C'est What is getting TVs. Are you turning into a sports bar? No, we are merely adding to our rec room offerings with a section that has TVs. The other sections will remain TV free. The TVs that we do have will not remain on all day as a sort of moving wallpaper. The viewing will be event driven eg. Saturday morning soccer, NFL Sunday, Grey Cup etc. Local teams take precedence over others, although we will have out of area coverage of Soccer, NHL, NFL, and MLB. A TV schedule will be prepared (much like our music calendar) to let you know what viewing to expect.

2. Can we bring our kids to C'est What? Not quite yet. While the new room is exclusively non-smoking (and separately ventilated), the original bar still has a smoking area. When our smoking room opens in the new year we will designated as a restaurant (all areas smoke free) and will be allowed to serve those of all ages.

3. Aren't you afraid that you are getting too big? We too are a little concerned about losing sight of all the little things that made us popular in the first place. But, let's put this in perspective. We will never be driven by the same concerns as a corporate owned pub. We believe that we can offer True Local Flavour to a few more people - and maybe a few of our regulars can actually find the space to hang out here on the weekends.

4. Will there be more C'est What brews produced? Yes, in fact we allready have our Chocolate Ale available. Our Ginger Beer and some seasonal offerings are in the works.

If you have more questions that beg a good answer, please contact us.

Girls With Guitars | Adam Warner | Erin Smith Band | Tamara Williamson | The Flints

Those with day jobs may be reluctant to check out a show during the week. Not to fear, here at nia the doors open promptly, shows start within fifteen minutes of their advertised time, and most weekday shows wrap up by midnight. Enjoy!

Linda MInspired by taking part in a songwriters' retreat in Nashville Tennessee in the summer of 2000, former Holly Go Lightly front woman Linda M now hosts the Toronto chapter of Girls With Guitars. Linda M invites you to drop into our "living room" and listen to the "girls" trade songs.

Featured in this edition of GWG is Toronto native turned Montrealer singer songwriter Rennan who has built a strong rep on her self titled 1998 debut CD that gave the retro brit-pop sound a face lift with healthy amounts of volume and grit. Her follow up effort replaces the crunchy guitar riffs and driving beats in favour of a more stripped back approach.

Advance tickets are available for the Girls With Guitars show on Saturday December 6 also featuring Vyletz.

Adam Warner is a roots pop singer/songwriter who writes honest, evocative songs of love, loss, and living.

A dynamic performer, his songs are stark portraits of the crossroads where the country meets the city. The past two years have seen him touring extensively throughout Canada, the US, and England. On December 10 he will be celebrating the release of his debut album fall backed by Mark Mariash (drums), Mike Lerner (keys), Rich Hamelin (Fender bass), Dave Celia (guitar), and a host of special guests.

Advance tickets are available for his show with Brian McMillan on Wednesday December 10.

quill + tolhurstBlending hard-slapping bass lines with strong, bouncy vocals, acoustic guitar and drums, The Erin Smith Band have gained an enthusiastic fan base defining themselves through their high octane pop-funk repertoire and energetic live shows.

Ronley Teper creates music that is a "syncretic" mish mash of styles blurring the lines from roots, jazz, blues to world pop, and folk. Her music has been described as reminiscent of the stories of Tom Waits, the soul of Cassandra Wilson, and the girlishness of Ricky Lee Jones.

Advance tickets are available for this Friday December 12 show with Jacob Two Two also performing.

Building seamless musical contrasts moving from delicate soundscapes to full ensemble crescendos, local experimental guitarist/singer/songwriter Tamara Williamson and her band return with an assault on the sometimes stagnant pop idiom.

Advance tickets are available for her next show with Great Lake Swimmers on Saturday December 20.

Toronto's own The Flints relish the golden age of popular music. A time when wearing a boa on stage bare chested wasn't immediately dismissed as "Eltonish", but rather celebrated for its audacity, attitude and ultimately exalted for it's musical sophistication...

Tipping their musical hats to a certain Brit aesthetic (read Badly Drawn Boy etc.), The Flints are a band on a mission. To draw you into their twisted and ultimately wonderful world of hooks hooks hooks. Cool pulsing choruses and jangle pop sing-a-longs set the mood and one is left with the sneaking feeling these guys will soon out-grow our sleepy little town.

The Flints are appearing on New Years Eve Wednesday December 31. Advance tickets are available.
