denisonsAny Day Now (Really)

Yeah, we said that our new room would be open by the time our 15th Annual Festival Of Small Breweries was held. Well, the paperwork did not flow through all of the government agencies in time. Even without our new taps we were able to feature thirty three brews at last Fridays event. Unfortunately, without the new room open we had to turn away far too many beer lovers for lack of space. Our apologies to all who had to brave the line-up or gave up hope.

Linda MNine Mile

Toronto's folk/pop/reggae Nine Mile is a collaboration between singer-songwriter Dari Pouyat and percussionist David Toley.

Charismatic performances and playful musicality are hallmarks of their live show delivering arresting rhythmic melodies and sweet powerful vocal hooks.

Stripped down but not out, the Nine Mile two piece sound blends all the elements one would expect from a full-on band hammering out their catchiest set. It's urban acoustic pop.

Advance tickets are available for their show on Friday November 14 with Reese and Matt Hryhorsky.

Making a name for himself as an exciting guitarist and writer on the local scene for the past ten years, Ray Montford mixes lush and reflective rootsy styles with the more upbeat electric characteristics of his playing that have had in demand as a sideman with the likes of The Rankins and Mary Jane Lamonde.

Moving his band fluidly between different styles and tempos with the finesse and elegance that has become Montford’s trademark both as a composer and musician, every note is a shimmering example of his ear for melody.

Advance tickets are available for his show with Ali Jennings on Saturday November 15.

In the summer of 2001 four Toronto-based singer/songwriter friends met to pool their contacts, ideas and talents with the intent of playing a few shows of in-the-round entertainment with one another. From this meeting grew an unexpected musical bond and amazing collaboration of four stunning natural forces.

Erin Smith, Janine Stoll, Melissa McClelland and Lisa Winn respectively front their own solo or band endeavours, but collectively are known as The Ladybird Sideshow (formerly the Mother Folker Tour). The live show is a fully acoustic collaboration of earth-shaking voices and vast variety of original songwriting and musical styles. Expect to hear beautiful harmonies, heart-wrenching lullabies, driving rock tunes, cabaret oddities, country-tinged warbles, rippin' funk, and everything in between.

Advance tickets are available for this show on Thursday November 20.

quill + tolhurstHere's the scoop... It was a dirty November night in Toronto, when five musicians met for the first time. They assembled in a small basement studio, having been rounded up by a team of outgoing film producers to record "funky jams." Unbeknownst to them, these "funky jams" were to be used in upcoming pornographic films. These first recordings were misplaced by the producers, and never saw the big screen. That was of little consequence to the quintet, soon to be known as The Robber Who Robbed The Town.

Advance tickets are available for their Saturday November 22 show with Laura Blaise.

After a brief hiatus, The Mariposa Folk Foundation is pleased to announce the fourth date in its concert series, From The Cocoon, featuring a mosaic of both emerging and established urban folk/pop artists with youthful appeal and an innovative approach to music.

The series continues Wednesday, November 26, featuring the music of Mike Trebilcock, with special guests Vile Richard and Sara Kamin.

Advance tickets are available.
