Side Launch Dark Lager

ABV: 5.3%

An authentic Munich style lager (Dunkel) from Denison’s brewmaster Michael Hancock’s new venture. A smooth, malty, and sessionable brew that starts slightly sweet and features a long complex finish.

Spring Festival Of Craft Breweries

Friday May 23, 5 PM to 12 AM

Our annual kick off to beer drinking season is moving back to the Friday after Victoria Day for it's tenth instalment.

 Expect the usual four dozen examples of small brewery adventure and innovation. This year we will be focussing on showcasing saisons and session beers. Stay tuned to our social media feeds on Facebook and Twitter for more details closer to the event.

As usual there is no admission fee and most samples will cost a dollar.

 

Session Saison

ABV: 6.5%

The SESSION Saison is a raspberry lemon verbena saison. The concept was created by a unique group of Toronto’s best craft beer bars dubbed, “The Local 7” (The Only Cafe, C'est What, BarHop, BarVolo, The Auld Spot, WVRST, and Bryden's). The Local 7 was brought together in support of Griffin SESSION Toronto Craft Beer Festival and Ontario Craft Beer Week. Brewmaster Sam Corbeil came up with the recipe and brewed this delicious Saison. It will be available on draught at any of the Local 7 or in bottles at the LCBO starting May 2. 

This saison is very dry with a hint of lemon and just enough tart, refreshing raspberry to keep you coming back for more. It has a pinkish hue and the tickle of champagne like carbonation. It is the kind of beer that is great to share with friends and pairs wonderfully with a summer salad or glazed white meats.

 

Local Cider Tasting

On Tuesday April 15, 2014 a sell out crowd made their way through an early spring snow day to try some artisanal cider. Eight Ontario ciders were tasted blind and when all was said and sipped five of the eight were deemed worthy of further consideration.

Flavours ranged from funky to fruity and tart to sweet. There seemed to be a cider available to please every palate. The one that seemed to please all was the Sunnybrook Ironwood Hard Cider which sat somewhere in the middle of the flavour spectrum with some interesting floral notes and complexity.

What's Brewing

In the land of the eternally restless beer drinker we never rest. Although some of our house brews have been around for two decades, there is always room for innovation and improvement. Here's a rundown of what's happening in the brewhouse:

Mother Pucker's Ginger Wheat is back for the warm(er) weather. We've tweaked the recipe to bring out more of the refreshing minty ginger characteristics. (IBU: 26, ABV: 5.0%)

The caraway has been taken out of the Rye Beer but it still has that delicious smokey pepper character. (IBU: 38, ABV: 5.0%)

A little bit of chili heat has been snuck into the Steve's Dreaded Chocolate along with cocoa nibs, vanilla paste, hazelnut and orange extracts, and cardamon. (IBU: 30, ABV: 5.6%)
