Adam's Rib

Adam's Rib create good, hard music. Sliding somewhere between alt rock edginess and more melodic pop compositions, the band have etched out a niche for themselves as a tight live act. Combining their crunchy guitar-heavy sound with hummable choruses and dynamic arrangements has proven to be a good balance for the band. Their latest CD, entitled Nevada was released in May of 1999. The band toured across the Canada and into the U.S. in the summer and fall of 1999 promoting the new recording including a show at the Molson Amphitheatre in Toronto on the indieblast stage, as part of the Santana concert.

The band began in early 1996 as a project in the home studio of founder Derek Lathrop. Right from the early beginnings of Adam's Rib, Lathrop wanted to try something different. As a result, he decided to make the first CD a concept recording. As an avid fan of some of the great concept albums of the 70's, Derek drew influence from such recordings as Pink Floyd's The Wall, The Who's Tommy, and Stevie Wonder's Songs in the Key of Life.

The debut CD, Scenes From a Corner Store is based on a story written by Lathrop. It tells the story of a day and night in the life of Adam Young, a fictional character, and his family. Scenes From a Corner Store, the title track and first single, was released with a video in January 1998. In December 1997, Adam's Rib received a Video Fact grant from Much Music and completed production of their video with Blackwalk Productions. Directors Gillian Farnsworth and Rowena O'Connor developed the script based on Lathrop's story and filming took place in the Blackwalk Studios on location in Toronto on December 10, 1997.

Upon completion of recording the CD in the spring of 1997, Derek promptly began assembling a live band whose talents would be instantly recognised. Adam's Rib is currently backed up by the strong musical skills of Peter Grant and Ryan Bullock on guitar, Nigel Walker on bass, and Vince Peck on drums.

Since that time the band has toured Canada extensively from one coast to the other. The video for Scenes From A Corner Store has received airplay on Much Music. The single reached #1 in Medicine Hat Alberta on The Mix 1390 AM's Canadian Countdown and on the mp3.com pop chart. The band also had two songs on the Hot 100 for 1998 in Yellowknife NWT on 100.1 The Mix.
