Alun Piggins Toronto-based singer/songwriter Alun Piggins began his music career at the age of 14. After playing in a series of bands ranging from punk rock to celtic, he formed thrash/folk band The Morganfields (kind of like Crazy Horse meets AC/DC) in 1989, toured Canada and the USA extensively and released 3 albums which garnered international critical acclaim and radio play (Watch/MCA in Canada, Thermometer Sound Surface in USA, Still Sane Records in Germany).
Upon disbanding The Morganfields, Alun embarked on a solo career, while also working as a recording engineer and producer (Rheostatics, Stephen Stanley, Blurtonia, Godspeed You Black Emperor, etc.). He released his self-produced debut solo CD Balladesque in 2000, followed by 2003’s Awaken the Snakes on Fred Eaglesmith’s AML Records. Both records generated radio play in the U.S., Australia and most of Europe, as well as Japan and Siberia. They were also played by campus radio and the CBC.
From 2004 to 2006, Alun toured internationally in support of Awaken the Snakes, most notably in England, Finland, Russia and China (2006 Maple Rhythm Festival as co-leader/songwriter of a one-tour version of Dave Bidini’s Rheostatics) as well as throughout the USA with labelmate Fred Eaglesmith.
Alun is currently completing a http://www.cestwhat.com/images/alunpiggins_393898338_6588813eae_o.jpgfollow-up to Awaken the Snakes which bears more resemblance to his work with The Morganfields than his two two solo outings. Think Howlin' Wolf meets The Replacements. He is also returning to China as a feature performer in the Canadian 2007 Maple Rhythm Festival.
