brilliantfish
Once
described as "Nine Inch Nails gone to therapy,"
brilliantfish create a dynamic and raw modern sound.
They bridge the gap between a dissonant melodic pop
structure and the harder edges of an industrial bent. An
uncompromising look into the darker elements of the human
psyche, brilliantfish combines synths, loops, samples,
guitars and vocals to create an intense, yet accessible
sound.
Combining
a relentless beat and heavily distorted guitar with spoken
word samples and dirgey vocal loops, dead plumbs the dark sub
frequencies of the soul. The passionate vocal delivery of
veteran Toronto indie musician Rob Greenway (a.k.a.
brilliantfish) soars over the mix with intensity and a sense
of cathartic purpose.
After
a powerful set at NXNE '98, brilliantfish hooked up
with producer RaZoR (U2,Killing Joke,Rain Tree
Crow,Clan of Xymox) and began work on d a r w i n s b
l a c k b o x . The new album is a melding of edgy synth
drive, rhythmic percussion, and dark textures, which
brilliantfish describes as "pastpresentfuturetension". A
progression from the industrial-tinged angst-pop of the
first cd sick, d a r w i n s b l a c k b o x includes
elements of eastern music and features more of
brilliantfish's dynamic vocal range. brilliantfish composes
and performs all tracks, with the addition of guitars by
Mark Schaper and master South Indian musician
Trichy Sankaran on mrdangam and kanjira.
The
brilliantfish song Dead is featured on
C'est What's compilation Local
Flavour.

A
completely re-worked version of dead can be found on the new
brilliantfish album d a r w i n s b l a c k b o x ,
