Bryce Clifford Returns to Canada
WIth Some of His Texas Troops
Bryce Clifford and his band will be rocking Toronto, London, and the Spring Lake Festival on a whirlwind tour that begins in Kansas City, and takes them through New York City down to the beaches of North Carolina.
Clifford, who started out playing with his brother Bradford in the Toronto based band 'Pedestrian Status', will have in tow a group of Austin TX musicians - bassist Zachary Firnhaber (of 'Crawling with Kings'), drummer Jon Humphrey ('Till We're Blue or Destroy'), and keyboardist Adoniram Lipton of the Texas blues-rock band 'Slowtrain'.
Bryce will be playing some new songs plus songs from the critically acclaimed "Signal the Sun" CD, which featured Toronto legend Kim Deschamps (Blue Rodeo, Cowboy Junkies) on pedal steel, Miles Zuniga from 'Fastall' on guitar, and Jon Blondell (Willie Nelson, Sublime) on trombone.
Americana UK said of "Signal the Sun" that "the quality of the songs and playing never falters over the 40 plus minutes." Freddy Celis of Rootstime (Belgium) called the recording "...a CD with a lot in common with The Band and Van Morrison but also with a touch of the work of a young Bob Dylan or the 80's post-punk music of The Replacements or Elvis Costello."
Bryce's music was featured last September on Bravo! Canada's documentary "Hitting Their Mark: Uncovering Alternative Theatre," a special about a theatre company from London, Ontario. And no wonder. The sophistication of the recordings is the product of dozens of experiments live on stage as Bryce seeks to provide fresh interpretations of his melodies and stories every time he performs. Every song eventually becomes an anthem for those who follow his music. Those who know can hear the loneliness of the Canadian countryside, the dark spaces in the lives of many who dwell in cities, and the hope for a better life in the spaces between the notes and the lyrics of each song.
