Amanda Clemens Amanda Clemens credits listening obsessively to Loretta Lynn 8-track tapes as a young girl, as a major influence in her evolution into the singer-songwriter that she is today but she has taken the tragic country music formula and bastardized it into her own style of calmative melodies (and not-so-calmative lyrical images). These melodies are sometimes setagainst a sampled background; sometimes they're thrown into a somewhat standard rock arrangement; sometimes they're left uncomplicated, with only her dissonant guitar chords for company. They always mollify her mordant lyrics, though well, usually. Clemens graduated from the Music Industry Arts Recording Engineering course at Fanshawe College, in London, Ontario. The most valuable lesson she learned from this program was that she preferred being in front of the microphone, rather than behind the recording console. Amanda has played, as a solo act, at various festivals and coffee houses; she has recently established a band to perform in the Toronto area. She is currently recording her debut independent CD, lovingly titled, BLAHsphemy christened so, in part by her mother's initial cries of "Blasphemy!" to her songs.
