Cueros y Cuerdas

Cueros y Cuerdas

Guitarist Mark Sepic (Banana Beat) has a passion for the driving rhythm of salsa and Latin jazz. When his latest ensemble, Cueros y Cuerdas, takes the stage at C'est What during this year's Toronto DownTOwn Jazz Festival it will be Sepic's twelfth consecutive appearance. This is a testimony to the appeal of a musical style which balances virtuoso playing with a sense of adventure. Self described "Zappa meets Ricky Ricardo..." the infectious beat of Cueros y Cuerdas is as much fun as you can have and still call it jazz.

The group features:
Les Alt, flute - the principal flautist with the National Ballet Of Canada and member of theatre orchestras for productions such as The Lion King;
Paul Ormandy, percussion - founding member of The Evergreen Club, and member of theatre orchestras for productions such as The Lion King and percusive darling in the world and new music community;
Colin Campbell - multi-instrumentalist co-founder of Samba Parabolica, an authentic Brasilian roots ensemble and accompanist in the Toronto jazz community;
Marc Sepic, guitar, jawharp, face percussion - influences are stated as Lenny Breau, Lenny Bruce, Spike Lee, Spike Jones, Mel Blanc, Mel Torme
Steve Tattersall, drums - Bobby Heriot Big Band and numerous recording and theatre projects;
John Yelland, bass - bassist/composer for Banda Brava, Gregory Hoskins and the Stick People, Liberty Silver, etc.
