Django
Haskins
"This
Brooklyn artist's debut album is marked by consistently high
quality songwriting and a promising kind of stylistic
inconsistency--two qualities that, when found together, are
the hallmarks of an artist with a bright future ahead of
him."
~Cheryl Botchick, CMJ New Music Report
NYC-based
pop tunesmith Django Haskins crafts songs with a
McCartney-esque melodic sense, a Costello-like
lyrical sharpness, and performs like a true
rocker.
Raised
by wolves with a surprisingly eclectic record collection,
Django grew up listening to Gershwin, Beatles, Dylan,
Thelonius Monk, the Replacements, and Elvis
Costello, creating in him a deep-seated love for pop
music in its many forms. In Django's unique blend of pop,
folk and rock, the innocence and tradition of Smalltown, USA
meets the sin and raw energy of the Big City. Give Norman
Rockwell a Fender Telecaster and imagine what it would sound
like. Probably not very good. Norm was tone deaf. Haskins,
on the other hand, is not.
"Django
Haskins is one of those 'singer/songwriters' who proves that
the combination still connotes a good thing . . . A New York
City-based musician who treads both pop and folk waters with
equal skill, Django Haskins' Folding Stars is a solid
record." ~ Vassar Miscellany News
