Remember
The Grapes of Wrath? Another band called
called Ginger? Two things in common with
both bands was the stellar writing/singing talents
of bassist/front man Tom Hooper. With
his new solo cd The Unexplored Cosmos
charting on commercial radio and an summer club
tour in the works, Hooper makes his only stop in
Toronto at nia Thursday August 8. Top
ten hits and gold and platinum recordings aside,
Hooper's new material recalls the crisp harmonies
and emotionally charged lyrics that have made his
hypnotically melodic writing so indelible. After 20
years in the business of writing music, he has
refined his craft to a science. Whether
opening for other acts (recently 5440,
Randy Bachman) or playing intimate club
dates, Hooper's acoustic set features songs that he
penned for the Grapes of Wrath, Ginger as well as
newer material and interpretations of personal
favourites. With
his history and a rep for marathon sets, we're in
for a musical treat. Special
guest popsters Likewater warm things up with their
take on "Grapes" inspired ballads and rockin
country tinged pop. Thursday
August 8, 10:00 pm with Likewater.
Tickets $8 at the
door. More
