Matt Humphreys

Growing up in a Northern Ontario town, this singer/songwriter brings a folk/roots vibe to his brand of adult contemporary pop. His creativity abounds in songs that speak of growing up, finding new love, or learning life's mysteries. 'Carson's Grove', the lead track from Matt's new 4-song EP, takes us to a fictional place where the worries of everyday life need not apply. "Cruise down to Carson's Grove, just sit back enjoy the show and try to make some sense of all our dreams." Matt's voice soars over his simple guitar playing and draws us into his world.

'Mrs. Carter' tells the story of an old woman, seeking attention in a society where we tend to overlook the elderly. Her plight is exemplified in this grooving ballad, penned during's some of Matt's experiences with his aging grandparents.

Produced by veteran Paul Milner, who's previous credits include Queensryche, Eddy Grant, Sass Jordan, Doughboys, the EP is backed by a band of stellar musicians including Kevin Breit, Fergus Marsh, and Mark Rogers.

Born in Sudbury and raised in the town of Timmins, Ontario, Matt studied piano and voice privately before moving to Toronto in 1997 to continue his studies at the University of Toronto's Faculty of Music. After graduating with a Bachelor of Music in Voice, he continued to embrace the popular side of music as a frequent performer in pubs and clubs in and around the GTA.

From 1998 - 2003, Matt toured extensively with the celtic/folk ensemble Urban Folk, releasing two albums, both containing original material penned by Matt. Post-'Urban Folk', Matt continued to play solo, sometimes accompanied by his band.

Matt was recognized for his vocal abilities by being a featured contestant on the first season of the CTV television show 'Canadian Idol', battling his way to the top 48 singers in Canada, and more recently, in the third season, reaching the TOP 32.

Striving to break the mold of the contemporary pop singer, Matt draws inspiration from piano-pop greats like Billy Joel and Elton John. He continues to write and record, while pursuing his other interests, art and design.

Matt is currently seeking representation, and is available for private engagements and events.
