Quinsin Nachoff Quartet ARTIST BIO Quinsin Nachoff, sax; Kevin Turcotte, trumpet; Andrew Downing, bass; Anthony Michelli, drums. The Quartet has been booked on a tour for the summer (June/July) of 2000 across Canada at all the major jazz festivals to promote our upcoming CD release. Funding has been confirmed by the Canada Council Touring Grant Office. Also, we have been awarded two grants (one from the Ontario Arts Council and one from the Canada Council) to make recordings. The first is scheduled for April 2000 and the second for August 2000 (with the addition of a string quartet). World-renowned drummer Peter Erskine commented upon hearing our demo CD: Dear
Quinsin, We have performed numerous times in Toronto at clubs such as the Montreal Bistro and the Rex, and did a concert a few years ago at the Toronto Downtown Jazz Festival on the Bravo! Citytv stage. PRESS "Freeflight's 20 members are the usual mix of older and younger veterans and younger emerging talents (notably tenor saxophonist Quinsin Nachoff)." ~ Mark Miller, Globe & Mail on reviewing a performance of the Freeflight big band. "No matter how lush or cushy the arrangements...there was usually someone on hand - Nachoff, ..., who was ready to make a strong case for the virtues of simplicity." ~ Mark Miller, Dec 3 '97 Globe & Mail on reviewing a performance of the Freeflight big band. "Posgate has in Allemano, Kirkwood and Nachoff three of the most promising young musicians to emerge locally in the past couple of years." ~ Mark Miller, Globe & Mail on reviewing the Tim Posgate Horn Band. "Nachoff, whose ability to combine a caustic tenor sound with a tender touch makes him resemble Archie Shepp in his prime, blows effectively on Down and Holding a Flashlight." ~ James Hale, Ottawa Citizen on reviewing the Nick Fraser Trio album Owls in Daylight. email:
