Valery GoreThe soundtrack to many characters’ lives rests in the cavern
of Valery Gore’s mind. Revelating with a modernism drenched
in antiquity, the music is biting tongue sadness, sarcasm
and joy at its finest.
Valery Gore’s compositional adherence of classical and jazz
to pop is characterized with a bold and uncanny piano sound.
Syncopated phrases, free solo landscapes and spontaneous
pirouettes accompany her airy voice. Trained from age eight
through classical, rebellion to much loved but conforming
Bach Fugues took place at age seventeen, when she began
piano jazz studies at Humber College. Through all those
trained years, rock influenced Valery’s writing the
greatest.
Valery is currently planning a tour for March 2005, when her
debut album will be released on Six Shooter Records (Luke
Doucet, Martin Tielli, Rheostatics) and distributed by
Warner Canada. Gore has performed alongside and recorded
backing vocals for Royal Wood’s album Tall Tales (Maple
Music), and has shared bills with Jill Barber, Greg
MacPherson, Brian Byrne (I Mother Earth), Dallas Green
(Alexisonfire), Lindy, Simon Wilcox, and other admired
artists. This past summer Valery played at S.C.E.N.E.
Festival in St. Catharines, as well as doing shows at venues
such as Rivoli, El Mocambo, C’est What, Cameron House, and
Lot 16. Live she is backed by tight rhythmic gentlemen Devon
Henderson on bass and Joshua VanTassel (Stop Die
Resuscitate) on drums. They’re guaranteed to steal your
heart, your joke, or maybe your spare change.
