Amber AleThe 16th Annual Festival Of Small Breweries

Our 16th Festival Of Small Breweries on Friday October 1, 2004. There were thirty-five craft brews from which to choose. As usual, there was a full-house in attendance. The bustling crowd seemed more intent on sampling than in filling out their tasting forms but seemed to be enjoying themselves in that "kid in a candy store" manner. After careful scrutiny of the scores returned we were able to determine a few statistics of interest:

  • For the fifth time in the last six years was the St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout finished at the head of the pack with a record median score of 44.5 out of 50. We have already given McAuslan a lifetime achievement award for their Oatmeal Stout so Best Of The Festival is being awarded to Denison's Weissbier which finished with a rating of 42. Runners-up were the Unibroue Ephemere Apple at 41 points, and the Black Oak Nut Brown at 40.5
  • Little fault was found in most of the thirty-five sampled with only seven scoring under thirty-five.
  • The Most Curious award for the most tasted beer goes to King Dark Lager. Hockley Traditional Ale and St. George's Ale (Dragonslayer) were popular choices too.
  • This year the Kid In A Candy Store award officially goes to Gord Holder and Peeter Nielander who rated each and every one of the brews available. Don't try this at home folks, these men are obviously trained professionals.

Cheers!

Beth in Battle Mode + Guests
Saturday, October 25, 10:00 PM
In an age where many bands boast bloated memberships, Beth In Battle Mode is creating as much noise with just three members. This economical approach is also reflected in the songs: short, catchy and direct. Describing the resulting music, however,...
