Uisge beatha or usquebaugh are two different spellings of the old Gaelic term for "water of life." This, to English speaking people, sounded like "uishgi" and over time was corrupted to "whisky."

the morning after?

We held our annual Irish Whiskey tasting on March 21, 2007, the week after St. Patrick's Day. This eliminated all of the Shamus-come-latelies and left us with a dedicated group of afficianados to sample the eight whiskeys "blind".

As it turns out, three of the top four were already on our list and the co-winner, Tullamore Dew, was the lowest priced. Most of the attendees were impressed by the depth and range of different flavour profiles across the samples. It would seem that Ireland has a lot more to offer these days than just Bushmills and Jameson.
