Uisge beatha or usquebaugh are two different spellings of the old Gaelic term for "water of life." This, to English speaking people, sounded like "uishgi" and over time was corrupted to "whisky."

taliskerThe Robbie Burns Memorial Scotch Tasting

From the lowlands to highlands by way of the islands, we made our offering to icon of all things Scottish. Eight different ten year old single malts were available for sampling on Wednesday January 22, 2003. Our tasters swirled, sniffed, and sipped without the benefit of a peak at the labels.

Although it falls firmly in the "love it or hate it" category, the Talisker finished on top for the second "blind" tasting in a row. Tomintoul turned a fews heads and Balvenie was deemed by many to be a great value.
