Uisge beatha or usquebaugh are two different spellings of the old Gaelic term for "water of life." This, to English speaking people, sounded like "uishgi" and over time was corrupted to "whisky."

bushmills 10Out Of The Cellar Wine Tasting

With some help from Angelo Rigitano, the creator of all but one of the nine wines on parade, we went back through fourteen years of wine making history on Wednesday February 15, 2006.

We were out to compare similar wines of different ages and see if age and good taste were related. Unfortunately, the results provide no clear answer to our question.

Conventional wisdom would suppose that the flavour profile of a fresh, fruity white wine like Riesling would decline after three to five years of cellaring. Well, the assembled tasters preferred the twelve year old Riesling to the two year old. On the other hand, red wines generally have a longer prime, but the tasters ranked the two year old Merlot ahead of the eight year old.

When it comes to taste, the only thing that can be said with certainty is that "there's no accounting for it."
